Should my kiddo bring anything to class?
Nope. We bring all the supplies. In fact, we strongly encourage you to remind your kiddo not to bring any LEGO from home. In fact, when LEGO brought from accidentally gets mixed in with our supplies, it can be hard to find. As these searches typically occur right at the end of class, when the teacher has an obligation to get students out to parent pick-up areas, this often results in LEGO from home being lost.
For some Stop Motion Animation classes, a teacher is given an option to make an exception for the classes when students work on their “big project”. If the teacher opts to give the exception, students may, bring their own LEGO provided it fits in a snack-size zip baggie, does not include any school-inappropriate items (ie: weapons), and is presented to the teacher at the start of class. Students will still be responsible for it, and teachers and Bonanza Educational are not responsible if they are lost.
Will there be any take home projects?
We take apart and re-use the LEGO each class, so they won’t take anything home.
Is water and food or drink okay in class?
Water is welcome in class provided it is brought in a bottle that can be closed. Food and other drinks are not welcome in after-school classes, except where a student has a health condition that requires a mid-afternoon snack. At camps, students are welcome to bring a small snack and water to half-day camps not more than four hours and you must send a child with a snack, lunch, water, and an optional non-soda drink for all full-day camps. All food consumption will be away from LEGO and require students to wash their hands after eating to prevent any food residue that causes an allergic reaction getting into or onto our LEGO supplies.
Can I come to class with my kids?
Yes, parents are always welcome to come into class, but make sure you follow the guidance of the school office when you come on campus. Some parents like to build the projects with their kids when they visit, but we encourage visiting parents to let their kids work at tables with other kids. If you take pictures, make sure its only of your kid and what they made.
Where do I pick up my kid after class?
We will arrive at the main parent pick up location for your school at the end of class, unless directed otherwise. Sometimes the school has a different spot for after-school classes. Check in with the office before the class if you’re not sure, as we will follow their guidance.
My Child is Forgetful, How Can I Make Sure They Get to Class?
As part of our child safety procedures, we will make sure every registered child is safe, even when they forget to come to class. It is easiest for our instructors when everyone arrives to class on time, so here are some ways you help your child remember class, especially if they’re forgetful:
- Remind your child on the morning of each class they have LEGO class after school.
- Email your child’s teacher on the first day of LEGO class to let them know your child will be attending and ask them to give a reminder to your child toward the end of the day.
- For those children who are especially forgetful or who struggle with changes to their regular routine, it may be helpful to put a note for them somewhere. Lunchbox notes are a great way to remind them in the middle of school day, and some parents even write “LEGO Class” in marker on their hand.
